Why do I blog
I was tagged by trinitydivine last week prior to going to my hometown (a separate post on this). It’s only now that I was able to save some time to answer the question, “Why do I blog?”…
The first time I read this question, I recalled the four reasons on why I keep a blog. These (were) the reasons why I blogged during my early months of serious blogging (2006) at the blogosphere.
I think it would be better to present those reasons here because I know that they would be a lot different from my reasons now in 2007. This is to see if my blogging attitude has changed or not, if blogging has benefitted me or not, and other realizations.
Here’s my first set of reasons for blogging:
- I blog about my present life, rants, and rambling so I will have something to look back to in the future [when I’m old and in my 90’s then], but still blogging at Fingertalks.
- I blog not to be understood, but to understand myself better.
- I blog because I want to.
- I blog because, for me, to blog is to:

Click here so you’d know what I mean by #4.
Looking back at those four reasons, I discovered that the bottomline is, I blogged because I only intended to give shape to my thoughts. I wasn’t aware then yet of bloghopping, increasing traffic, page ranking, and etc. My page rank in the free account that fingertalks used in 2006 was 5, but it decreased by one point when I decided to discontinue updating it in February of this year. I bought a paid domain in the same month, but I found out after two months that my page rank is creeping. I don’t know my reason for minding this PR, but I think it’s cool. :p I think it’s part of blogging. Whatever…
I used blogging then to unleash the cobwebs on my head, to kill time if I could not yet think well about my school and work stuffs, and to hear my ‘own’ voice both the negative and the positive…such that blogging became my therapy whenever stress at the physical world was hitting me.
Until now, blogging at fingertalks serves a therapeutic purpose for my soul, mind, and fingers. BTW, I’m currently a mum to four blogs in my cyberhome.
Here’s the second set of my reasons for blogging:
- Having a paid domain enabled me to put my blogging attitude to the next level. I became aware of the money (PhP480/yr) that I shell out for my domain. By surfing the vastness of the blogosphere, the potential of blogging was magnified. I became hooked to making online income through my blog.
- My blogging persona has also improved a lot. I developed friendships with other online bloggers. I became aware of their needs to be heard, to be listened to, to be cheered upon, to know how others are doing while also trying to fulfill the same needs that I have as a blogger. It’s in this bonding with them through virtual connectivity that makes blogging more exciting, fruitful, and productive. The propagating and sharing of thoughts, ideas, online money making programs, pieces of advice make my STAY on the blogosphere worthwhile.
- The comments and kind words from fellow bloggers, online visitors, and strangers have inspired me to be more cautious of shaping my thoughts into words that will be imprinted on their minds. I find it meaningful when I learn, heard, read that my posts have touched my readers in one way or another. At least, I am assured of that the seconds and minutes that they would devote for hopping to my blog would not be wasted.
- I blog to write and learn more about things that are worthy of researching, discussing, and sharing with different people on the blogosphere.
- I blog to be of help to those who might stumble upon my blog…
To read between the lines of the new reasons I just posted, I could say that I blog and will continuously blog because it has given me advantages that I’d not get through other means. For me, blogging has made me a better person, student, worker, family member, friend, and online user.
