Shoesness! Goodness!
Quote:“Few people know how to take a walk. The qualifications are endurance, plain clothes, old shoes, an eye for nature, good humor, vast curiosity, good speech, good silence and nothing too much.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
During my last year in college 10 years ago, I had 25-30 pairs of shoes. I bought them through saving, mostly through buying shoes when on sale by 50 percent. Of course, I was a student back then so I preferred shoes on BIG SALE, and yes, even until now, I prefer buying shoes on sale so that I could bring home not just a pair of shoes, but more pairs of shoes. sHoEsNeSs! GoOdNeSs!
So, the lower part of my locker was full of those pairs of shoes. When I graduated from college, I just threw them away. Not because I was overly extravagant or I didn’t care about the money I bought with those shoes. Of course, I could have given them away. However, they were already worn out so I got no choice. However, as I was already working then, I bought some good pairs of shoes and eventually gave them away to those who needed them. Aside from those pairs of shoes which I kept during my college days, I had four boxes of books and pocketbooks. Anyway, I won’t talk about those books and pocketbooks here; some other time, maybe.
One time, I saw my father throwing one pair of my shoes (I brought all of my shoes from my dorm to our flat in Pasig after graduating from college) because he thought I wouldn’t use it anymore. That pair of shoes looked like it was ages ago! LOL! It’s because that shoes looked like it was my grandmother’s old fashioned shoes. I kept that pair of shoes, until I was already tired of its bigness! Yeah, the shoes was big because I bought it even though it was big for me. Well, it looked so ancient really, and perhaps, that fascinated me.
When I traveled to our new residence, I brought with me six pairs of shoes. But I ended up only using two pairs. So the other six pairs were just stocked on my shoe rack. I just noticed that those shoes wouldn’t suit here, or, well, honestly, maybe I don’t like to wear them anymore. I wonder what made me brought them here. During our course of stay here, I already have bought 12 pairs of shoes from the different malls here. I wasn’t able to take photos of all those shoes. But I took pictures of the latest shoes I bought last night.
Tararan…

I got this habit of buying a lot of shoes from my mom. Hehe. If you’d see her collection at home, you’d just be amazed at how often she buys shoessseessss! Most of the time though, she’d give them to her officemates, and to others. I share this habit of buying shoes with my sis#1 and bro#1. They would often buy two to three pairs of shoes at a time.
For two nights in a row, hubi and I walked around the city to look for my shoes. I fitted a lot of shoes on the first night, but I didn’t want any from those pairs of shoes. They were so comfortable, yet lacking in style. And the price was so high! Not good choice for the prices of the shoes. So we scouted again on the second night; I was able to buy those shoes at sale prices, and they were made in Italy; not China ~ majority of shoes here are made in China. No problem with that, but…(fill up the missing words).
Which do you prefer in buying shoes? Comfort or style?
Before I preferred style over comfort. The bad thing was, I got some callouses from those ill-fitting shoes! Gotcha. Good thing, they were removed over time. If not, I couldn’t wear open-styled shoes and my favorite stiletto. As I grew older, I learned to choose comfort over style. But nowadays, I chose both - comfort with style, style with comfort.

A few months back, hubi was laughing at the way I was walking with my shoes. He criticized me then because my shoes often got sand whenever we went out. I told him, it’s not the way I walked, but blamed it on my shoes. I think I was fooled that the shoes I was wearing then was not genuine leather. So we bought a genuine-leathered shoes. Then that shoes no longer gathered sand, dust, and dirt. A week after that, he bought a pair of shoes. We scouted all over the men’s department stores here, and he ended up buying the pair of shoes which he thought were good enough - yes, but for only a day. The next morning, he used that shoes, and I told him exactly the same lines…”Look, is that how you walk? Your shoes gathered all the dirt!” And he said exactly the same lines as his response, “It’s because of the shoes”.
So hubi bought new pairs of shoes again. This time around, he bought four pairs in just a month. Goodness! I thought I was the only one who got the fetish for shoes. But modesty aside, he really is a good care taker of his shoes. His shoes which he bought five years ago are still OK until now. However, there’s one he bought from the Philippines during our last vacation there that really didn’t look good, I mean, that shoes didn’t match his office outfit. So he ended up buying four pair of shoes until his taste for comfort and style were met.
I don’t know how long would my new shoes last. Haha. Hubi knows me as a person whose shoes don’t last that long even though they are branded. Maybe, I have this instinct that I have to change shoes every now and then, so they don’t last that long. I got shoes here which aren’t worn-out yet, and I’m planning to ship them back home as Christmas gifts to some people.
Till next post! Gosh, I didn’t know I could write this long tonight, er, early morning. I’ve been blogging straight since the day I joined the 365days (of blogging) group. Whoa! What a great way to exercise and flex the muscles of my talking fingers!
